The right way to present your MUN experience

in a job interview

As the members of this platform, most of us are highly experienced in MUN, or the others will gain more knowledge by time. By each conference, we are spending more and more time for the Model United Nations and activities related to it. As the product of hard work many hours, we want to obtain several benefits from these organisations. After attending to a series of conferences, for example to a dozen, the benefit over time ratio gets lower and lower. Here comes the important question; how can we convert our MUN build up into a factor that has a pretty big role in our academic or professional life.

In academic life, it is much easier to make the right presentation of the MUN and convince them about its importance because university professors are usually highly affected by the students who are willing to be aware of the regional and global problems. If it is also an extracurricular activity, they mostly try their best to provide flexibility at their best.

However, business life is more formidable. Everyone is an adult, and there is no one to fix the troubles you may cause. When this is the case, employers are very sensitive while evaluating the job candidates. There are many university graduates nowadays but the important point is to be differentiated from them by the personal abilities, experiences and character. At this step, a powerful word takes to responsibility on its shoulders: Marketing!

Whatever you are into, be sure that the person you are talking has sufficient knowledge about the topic. The MUN is so popular among the young people in the age range of 15-25 but elder people do not generally have any idea about what MUN is, how it works, what the reasons and outcomes of its existence are.

For your employer-to-be understand the aim of the MUN easily, you should be simple and straight-forward. For example, at first talk about the basics of the MUN:

  • What is MUN?

  • Why are you involved in?

  • Which positions have you held?

  • What kind of knowledge have you built up by the help of the MUN?

  • How does it help with your personal development?

These question may be a useful guide to you for introducing your MUN interest and then you may get into details if (s)he seems to be intrigue about the topic but do not forget that each person has different tastes.
